John has over 25 years of insurance industry experience and currently leads the EY offering for finance transformation in Singapore, including IFRS 17 for insurance clients. He has worked directly for leading international insurers and reinsurers as well as other big four advisory firms. John’s previous role included being the global head of business process excellence and being responsible for Business Process Reengineering (BPR) programs internally and clients through the consulting division. John has worked in Europe, North America and Asia, and holds a PhD in Political Economy from the University of Bristol.

Walter de Oude is the Group CEO of Singlife, a Singapore-based digital insurer that aims to unlock the potential of money by making financial services more convenient, transparent, accessible and affordable. With Singlife’s merger with Aviva Singapore, Walter de Oude has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of Aviva Singlife, the combined entity’s Singapore licensed insurance business, to raise the bar in providing superior financial products, professional financial advice and mobile-first customer engagement.

Prior to founding Singlife, Walter held a range of roles at HSBC Insurance (Singapore) from Chief Actuary and Head of Products, Deputy CEO and CEO for nearly a decade with the global insurance conglomerate. With an illustrious career in insurance and actuary across Asia, Walter has a deep understanding of the insurance landscape and has made it his life mission to make insurance and wealth management more accessible through cutting-edge digital technologies. His passion as a leader and an entrepreneur landed him the award of ‘Outstanding CEO of the Year 2018’ at the Influential Brands 2018 CEO Asia Summit and was recently named by Business Insider as one of the 100 People Transforming Business in 2020.  

Rafael Lam is an associate partner based in Bain & Company’s Singapore office. He is a member of the firm’s Financial Services practice.

With more than 10 years in management consulting, Rafael has significant experience advising clients on various topics spanning strategy, digital platforms, commercial excellence, and operating model, as well as led diligence and value creation efforts. He is also an expert on Bain’s proprietary Micro-battles System.

His recent work includes corporate and business unit strategy, sales model design, and digital business model and platform development for a range of banks and insurers across Southeast Asia.

Rafael holds an MBA from INSEAD and a double bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and Business Management from the Singapore Management University.

In his role as CEO of Vietnam’s leading life insurance company, Sang is responsible for guiding the business through its next phase of transformation and growth. A seasoned executive who brings a renewed focus on improving the customer experience through a mix of digital innovation and operational efficiency, he is also an advocate of the benefits of a diverse and innovative employee culture. Sang is a champion of the industry’s need to help close the protection gap, improve the life insurance penetration rate, and is passionate about supporting the public’s growing interest in health and wellness services. His vision is to build Manulife into the premier digital and customer-centric life insurance company in Vietnam. With over 25 years of experience in the life insurance and asset management industries, his career spans senior leadership roles in Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand and South Korea. Sang holds an BA in Molecular Cellular Developmental Biology and an MBA in International Business.
