Manulife Indonesia brings home two wins at Insurance Asia Awards 2025

Manulife Indonesia bagged the Health Insurance Initiative of the Year - Indonesia and the Insurance Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Indonesia awards.

Insurance firm Manulife Indonesia received two major accolades at the prestigious Insurance Asia Awards 2025 for successfully launching innovative, customer-centric solutions that address rising medical costs through Manulife Syariah Indonesia, as well as for promoting inclusivity in its products and services and within the organisation.

Manulife Sharia’s standout product, MiUltimate HealthCare Syariah, is a universal insurance plan that promotes risk-sharing through a Takaful model, fostering solidarity amongst policyholders. This product is suitable for those who are particularly seeking Sharia-compliant solutions, offering peace of mind to individuals embarking on significant religious journeys like Hajj and Umrah.

It has also developed a Curated List of Preferred Hospitals, now comprising over 650 local and 350 international hospitals. These providers offer enhanced services and benefits to customers, such as room upgrades, ambulance pick-up, and VIP support. It has also implemented Agreed Clinical Pathways with these hospitals to ensure consistent, evidence-based treatments, reducing risks associated with overtreatment.

Manulife Indonesia also introduces No-Claim Discounts and Co-Payment features, encouraging healthier lifestyles and more thoughtful healthcare usage by offering premium discounts for claim-free years.

Additionally, it offers the Manulife Personal Medical Partner service, which provides dedicated medical support from diagnosis to recovery, ensuring that policyholders receive expert guidance and access to top specialists, both locally and internationally.

Manulife Syariah Indonesia’s innovative approach to health products and end-to-end ecosystem reflects its dedication to providing comprehensive and customer-centric healthcare solutions. This has earned Manulife the Indonesia the Health Insurance Initiative of the Year - Indonesia category win.

Meanwhile, the company’s efforts to promote inclusivity have been marked by the establishment of its DEI Council in 2021. This comes from its commitment to the national value of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity)” and the Pancasila principle of fair and civilised humanity, focusing especially on inclusion for marginalised groups.

Amongst the initiatives it has undertaken are hosting Indonesia’s first DEI Summit in 2023 and becoming the first insurer in the country to provide coverage for people living with HIV without any premium differences or exclusions, demonstrating the company’s dedication to extending inclusion beyond the workplace.

Manulife Indonesia has also organised a Product Inclusivity Workshop using a human-centred design approach, which brought together team members, people with disabilities, and caregivers to share experiences and identify unmet needs. These insights are now helping the development of impactful solutions, ensuring these truly reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

In the short-term goal, Manulife Indonesia has equipped its agents with the necessary knowledge and tools to offer the insurance products to people with disabilities or caregivers. Amongst these tools is a toolkit that includes educational and awareness materials like agent guides, scripts, training videos, and modules on disability awareness. These resources have boosted agents’ confidence and foster a culture of empathy and service excellence.

Looking ahead, it aims to enhance its services by introducing accessibility features, such as sign language interpretation, Braille materials, and inclusive digital platforms. Long-term plans also include exploring the development of insurance products tailored to the diverse needs of individuals with physical, sensory, developmental, or cognitive disabilities.

It is also redeveloping its risk assessment models to be more equitable and is exploring technologies like voice-command mobile apps and streamlined claims processes to improve accessibility.

“This initiative is more than just a company strategy; it's a collective call to action. We encourage all stakeholders, employees, partners, and the public to join us in building a more inclusive future by challenging ourselves, removing barriers, and upholding our commitment to fairness and respect,” the company representative said.

Manulife Indonesia clinched the Insurance Inclusion Initiative of the Year - Indonesia category win for this milestone.
