Hong Kong regulator warns against fake Sun Life websites

The IA stressed that any insurance business operating in the city must be authorized by it.

Hong Kong’s Insurance Authority is warning the public of fraudulent websites purporting to be of Sun Life Hong Kong.

In a release, the IA identified that the fake websites with the domain names of “http://sun-lifegroup.info” and “http://sun-lifegroup.net” have no connection with Sun Life, an authorised insurer.

“The case has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for further investigation. Anyone who has provided personal information to the aforesaid websites or has conducted any transactions through the website should call Sun Life’s Customer Service Hotline at 2103-8928 and report the case to the Hong Kong Police Force,” the IA said.

Under the Insurance Ordinance, any company carrying on insurance business in or from Hong Kong must be authorised by the IA.

The IA also warned of a similar fake website purporting to be Bowtie Life Insurance Company.
