Claims submission office opens in Singapore for Marine Honour oil spill

Whilst the shipowner is liable for damages, their liability is capped.

A joint Claims Submission Office (CSO) has opened in Singapore to handle compensation claims arising from the Marine Honour oil spill on 14 June.

Operated by the  International Oil Pollution Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) and British Marine, the CSO will assist individuals and organisations affected by the pollution damage.

Singaporean law, specifically the 1992 Civil Liability Convention (CLC) and Fund Convention, governs the incident.

Whilst the shipowner is liable for damages, their liability is capped. If claims exceed this limit, the 1992 Fund will provide compensation.

Given the expected claims, the shipowner has invoked their right to limit liability.

The IOPC Funds and British Marine have partnered to establish the CSO and offer support to claimants.
