China expands basic medical insurance portfolio

The country added 91 new drugs to its medical insurance drug catalogue.

China has further expanded its basic medical insurance portfolio by adding 91 new drugs to the latest national medical insurance drug catalogue.

This brings the total number to 3,159, whilst the most recent round of the centralised procurement initiative has reduced the prices of 62 medicines.

In addition, the majority of Chinese localities have added assisted reproduction services to the scope of medical insurance reimbursement, benefiting more than a million people so far.

Moreover, a total of ¥24.23b (US$3.4 b) worth of medical insurance funds were recovered by relevant departments from January to November 2024.
