Insurance maintains consumer trust amidst global digital decline: Thales

22% of consumers said personal data had been compromised in the past year.

The insurance sector is amongst the few industries where trust levels remained stable or saw a slight increase.

In Singapore, 22% of consumers reported their personal data had been compromised in the past year, exceeding the global average of 19%.

This has led to 85% of Singaporeans abandoning brands over data privacy concerns in the past 12 months.

Whilst digital trust declined across most sectors globally, insurance, banking, and government services were the only exceptions, revealed Thales’ 2025 Digital Trust Index – Consumer Edition. The survey, which covered over 14,000 consumers across 14 countries, highlighted rising concerns about data security.

Despite these concerns, Singapore’s insurance industry has managed to maintain trust levels alongside banking and government services.

This stability comes as 88% of Singaporean consumers demand stronger data privacy rights, whilst 62% believe too much responsibility for data protection is placed on them rather than on companies.
