Prudential reels in new CEO for Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam

Solmaz Altin also resigned.

Prudential plc has appointed John Cai as Regional CEO for Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Agency, effective 7 April.

He will be based in Hong Kong and report to Prudential CEO Anil Wadhwani.

The appointment follows the planned departure of Solmaz Altin, Regional CEO for Growth Markets, Health, and Agency, who is returning to Europe for family reasons.

Solmaz will stay on as an advisor and remain with the company until the second half of 2025 to support a smooth transition.

His resignation has led to a restructuring of the Group Executive Committee, resulting in two new regional CEO roles.

Cai brings over 20 years of experience leading insurance businesses in Asia.

He previously served as Group Regional Chief Executive at AIA, overseeing operations in China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Myanmar.

He also led business and agency model transformations. Before AIA, he was CEO of AXA Hong Kong.
Under the revised structure, Cai will oversee operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam, as well as agency strategy.

A second regional CEO, covering India, Africa, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar with responsibility for Health, will be announced later.

Dennis Tan continues as Regional CEO for Singapore and Thailand, overseeing Partnership Distribution, whilst Angel Ng remains Regional CEO for Greater China, responsible for Customer and Wealth.
