Markel Insurance names Tim Wills head of Marine in Australia

This marks the company’s first expansion in Australia beyond the long-tail lines.

Markel Insurance, the insurance arm of Markel Group Inc, has appointed Tim Wills as head of Marine – Australia, effective immediately.

Based in Sydney, Wills will lead the launch of Markel International’s marine products in the Australian market, beginning with marine cargo. 

This marks the company’s first expansion in Australia beyond the long-tail lines introduced alongside its local presence two years ago.

Wills previously served as Head of Marine for Asia-Pacific at Tokio Marine Kiln, where he rebuilt the portfolio after the insurer’s brief market exit in 2018. 

He has also held marine insurance roles at Chubb Insurance and QBE.
