Howden appoints Chris Hughes as CEO of broking in New Zealand

He will report to Matt Bacon, CEO of Howden Pacific.

Howden has appointed Chris Hughes as Chief Executive Officer of its broking business in New Zealand, effective November. 

He will report to Matt Bacon, CEO of Howden Pacific.

Hughes brings more than 30 years of insurance industry experience. 

He joins from IAG/NZI, where he held senior roles in complex and specialist risks, broker and specialist claims, SME distribution and personal lines. 

Before that, he spent 17 years at Rothbury Insurance Brokers, rising to Executive General Manager, Broking Services and Business Operations.

Following his appointment, Nigel Wallace will transition to Chair of Howden New Zealand. Wallace, who joined through the acquisition of Wallace McLean in 2022, oversaw the company’s growth as CEO.
