Allianz deploys AI agents for motor, health claims

Allianz said this is aimed at reducing manual work, speeding up first payments.

Allianz SE has entered into a global partnership with AI firm Anthropic to expand the use of responsible artificial intelligence (AI) across the group, focusing on improving operations, software development, and claims processing.

The two companies said the partnership will centre on three projects. 

The first will integrate Anthropic’s “Claude” models into Allianz’s internal AI platform, which will be available to employees worldwide. 

The tools will be used to support software development and allow staff to securely connect and use data across different systems.

The second area will focus on using AI agents to automate multi-step processes, including documentation intake and claims handling in motor and health insurance. 

Allianz said this is aimed at reducing manual work, speeding up first payments, and improving the customer experience, whilst keeping a “human-in-the-loop” approach for sensitive and complex cases.

The third project will develop AI systems that record decisions, reasoning, and data sources to meet regulatory and compliance requirements.

Allianz said it already uses AI in areas such as roadside assistance, automated claims for power outage-related food spoilage in Australia, and faster processing of pet insurance claims in Germany. 

The group is also investing in training programmes to build AI skills across its workforce.
