Howden targets seafarer cover gap with SAFER at Home
The product provides basic hospitalisation protection for crew members between contracts.
Howden launched a new health insurance solution, "SAFER at Home", designed to protect seafarers and their families when they are on leave between contracts.
The initiative aims to address an insurance gap for the estimated 1.89 million seafarers worldwide who crew vessels carrying over 90% of global goods, many of whom lose coverage when they are not employed at sea.
The product provides basic hospitalisation cover and is designed for shipping companies to purchase for their crews as an employee retention tool.
Additional tailored benefits can be added based on individual corporate requirements.
Developed in partnership with UK-based Crewsure, the policy also supports the Mission to Seafarers.
This global welfare network operates in approximately 50 countries and more than 200 ports, providing frontline support, helplines, and wellbeing services to seafarers and their relatives.
