Aon raises data centre insurance capacity to $5b

The programme now supports projects from construction through long term operations.

Professional services firm Aon has expanded its Data Centre Lifecycle Insurance Programme, raising its total coverage capacity from $3.5b to $5b.

The expansion covers the full lifecycle of digital infrastructure assets, from initial development through to ongoing operations. 

The move comes as rising global demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and hyperscale facilities drives up the size and financial scale of data centre projects.

Under the expanded program, Aon provides up to $5b in Construction All Risks, Delay in Start-Up, and Property Damage and Business Interruption coverage, backed by a panel of A-rated insurers from Lloyd's and wider market providers.

The updated program also sets specific liability limits across key operational areas. These include up to $500m for project cargo coverage, $400m for

Cyber and Technology Errors and Omissions, and $1b for terrorism coverage accessed through existing company facilities. 

Third-party liability limits are set at $200m for projects outside the US and $100m for those within the US.

Alongside direct insurance placement, the firm is integrating risk management, climate advisory, environmental planning, and engineering services through Aon Global Risk Consulting to support project financing and long-term operational resilience.
