Claims involving social engineering and fraud surged 233%.
Cyber insurance claims across Asia-Pacific (APAC) rose 22% in 2024 as companies faced increasing risks from AI-driven cyber attacks and geopolitical tensions, according to Aon's 2025 Cyber Risk Report.
The report, based on CyQu scores from 3,226 Aon clients and an analysis of over 1,400 global cyber incidents, found that cyber incident frequency in APAC grew by 29% year-on-year and by 134% since 2020.
Claims involving social engineering and fraud surged 233%, driven largely by a 53% increase in deepfake-related attacks.
Aon said that malware and ransomware continue to dominate reputation-related claims, accounting for 60% of such events globally.
Amongst the 1,414 incidents analysed, 56 led to reputational damage, with affected companies experiencing an average 27% decline in shareholder value.
