Cambodia insurance policies plunge 51% despite premium rise
General contracts fell 63.51% while life contracts dropped 45.41%.
Cambodia’s insurance market recorded gross premiums of $28.49m in May 2026, up 1.61% from $28.04m in May 2025, according to the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia.
Life insurance premiums increased by 1.62% to $17.44m, whilst general insurance premiums rose by 1.61% to $11.05m.
The number of insurance policies fell by 50.97% to 107,366, compared with 218,998 a year earlier.
General insurance policies dropped by 63.51% to 24,573, whilst life insurance policies declined by 45.41% to 82,793.
The total sum insured increased by 16.45% to $11.32b from $9.72b. The sum insured under general insurance rose by 12.96% to $9.07b, whilst life insurance increased by 33.02% to $2.25b.
Gross claims incurred rose by 0.94% to $6.58m. General insurance claims increased by 3.50% to $4.87m, whilst life insurance claims fell by 5.71% to $1.71m.
Property insurance was the largest general insurance product line in May 2026, accounting for 36.20% of premiums.
Vehicle insurance represented 19.89%, followed by health insurance at 19.62%.
Personal accident insurance accounted for 7.87%, transportation 6.84% and engineering 3.82%.
Other products made up 5.67%, whilst agriculture accounted for 0.08% and livestock recorded no change.
