Cambodia’s January 2026 premiums inch down to $42m
Policies nearly doubled to 472,175.
Cambodia’s insurance sector recorded total gross premiums of $42.4m in January 2026, down 1% from $42.7m in January 2025.
General insurance premiums fell 3% to $23.5m, compared with $24.3m a year earlier. Life insurance premiums rose 3% to $18.9m from $18.4m.
The number of policies increased sharply, rising 96% to 472,175 in January 2026 from 240,767 in the same month last year.
The growth was mainly driven by life insurance, where the number of policies rose 137% to 405,539. General insurance policies fell 4% to 66,636.
Total sum insured declined 7% to $11.5b from $12.3b. General insurance sum insured fell 7% to $9.2b, whilst life insurance sum insured declined 3% to $2.3b.
Gross claims incurred rose 5% to $5.07m in January 2026 from $4.8m a year earlier. General insurance claims increased 4% to $3.4m, whilst life insurance claims rose 8% to $1.6m.
The figures show that Cambodia’s insurance market started 2026 with lower total premiums and sum insured, but with a much higher number of policies and higher claims.
