Digit Life claim payouts jump 59% in FY 2026
The insurer paid $45.8m across 28,658 settled claims in its latest transparency report.
Digit Life Insurance’s gross written premium rose to $199.0m (₹1,990 crore) from $131.6m (₹1,316 crore) the previous year, supported by a 38% growth in new business premiums.
Total claim payouts escalated by 59.18% year-on-year (YoY) in fiscal year 2026, with the company distributing $45.8m (₹4.58b) across 28,658 settled claims, according to its fourth annual transparency report.
The report highlights a reduction in turnaround times across core operations.
The average time taken to settle a death claim fell to 1.82 days from the receipt of the final document, down from an overall end-to-end journey average of 13.78 days in the previous financial year to 6 days.
The company settled 76% of all death claims within three days, with 36% closed within 48 hours.
Operationally, the company increased its daily capacity, issuing up to 137,000 policies in a single day and covering 144,000 lives under a single group policy.
Retail policy issuance saw 90.29% of cases completed within 15 hours, whilst general underwriting decisions averaged 13 hours.
High-value group policies worth up to $3.0m (₹30 crore) were issued within 10 working hours of final document submission.
Customer service channels faced higher demand, with call centre volumes increasing by 59.58% YoY to handle over 4,500 calls.
Average conversation times fell from 5 minutes 38 seconds to 5 minutes 6 seconds, with 71% of enquiries resolved during the initial contact.
