GIAJ initiates survey for efficient assessment and claim payments after earthquake

The survey will be conducted through the use of aerial and satellite photography.

The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) said it is working steadfastly to assess damages and address claim payments from the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake.

In efforts to promptly address the situation, the GIAJ decided to conduct a “joint survey” where a team “dispatched by general insurance companies uses aerial photographs and satellite images to confirm the status of the disaster areas”.

For those affected by fire or washed away by the tsunami, an entire vicinity will be identified as a “total loss area” or a “partial total loss area”.

“Following the joint survey, buildings located in areas certified as "total loss areas" or "partial total loss areas" are able to receive claim payments without individual on-site surveys. This is expected to result in payments being made promptly.” the GIAJ said in a press statement.
