How much are SG’s expats paying for medical coverage?
The average annual hospitalisation coverage is US$99,034.
Seventy-nine percent (79%) of expatriate medical benefit plans in Singapore offer insufficient coverage for major medical expenses, a recent study by health insurance advisory firm Interexpat revealed.
Furthermore, the average annual hospitalisation coverage is US$99,034 (S$128,615), but the median is much lower at US$23,100 (S$30,000), meaning half of the plans provide even less.
Cancer treatment coverage averages US$29,391 (S$38,167), while the median sits at US$15,400 (S$20,000). Only 7% of plans offer unlimited hospitalisation coverage, and 9% require co-payments for hospital stays.
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment averages US$42,158 (S$54,750), with a median of US$30,030 (S$39,000), and major medical coverage averages US$60,638 (S$78,750) but with a median of US$61,600 (S$80,000).
In addition to these medical coverage shortfalls, 35% of the plans surveyed do not provide full coverage for dependents.
