Insurance sector sees 25% decline in cyber attacks in Q2 2024
Across all industries, the region experienced a 23% rise in attacks.
Global cyber strikes in the second quarter of the year (Q2 2024) saw its highest increase in the past two years, climbing 30% on a weekly basis. On average, this was 1,636 attacks per organisation per week.
In terms of industry impact, the insurance sector was one of the fortunate industries that recorded a decline in the number of published attacks which fell 25%, recent Check Point Research data revealed.

On a weekly basis, Africa saw the highest average weekly cyber attacks per business in Q2 2024, with an average of 2,960 attacks, surging 37% compared to the same period in 2023.
Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, similarly, climbed 23% in attacks, and an average of 2,510 weekly.
The education/research sector saw the highest spike, enduring 3,341 attacks weekly, marking a 53% rise from last year. Government/military and healthcare followed, each facing significant threats.
