Japan insurers pay $215m for April hail damage

Nearly 100% of the claims received were covered.

Insurance claims paid for the hail-fall that occurred in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture and others on April amounted to $215.04m (¥33.6b), data from the General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) showed.

Of the total 92,424 accepted claims, 98.7% of that were covered.

Paid claims under the coverage for damage to own vehicle reached $111.36m (¥17.4b). This was followed by fire insurance at $102.4m (¥16.0b) and miscellaneous at $1.02464m (¥160.1m).
