Munich Re appoints new senior regional exec

Michaela Hannemann will be based in Singapore.

Germany-based global reinsurance company, Munich Re, has appointed Michaela Hannemann as the new regional head of Casualty Treaty Underwriting for Japan, India, Korea, and Southeast Asia.

Hannemann brings with her over 20 years of experience.

Prior to joining Munich Re, Michaela was at Gen Re, where she has spent her reinsurance career since 2002. Following her law degree, she joined Gen Re in Cologne as a wording specialist, providing support to all international P&C units, and then became Senior Treaty Liability Underwriter before taking on senior account executive responsibilities that spanned the German-speaking markets and the UK and Ireland.

In 2016, she was appointed Treaty P&C Manager and Head of Casualty at Gen Re in London, where she led client servicing across all lines of business. In 2020, she took on her most recent role as the lead of the London Market Treaty Broker Facility of the Faraday/Gen Re joint venture.

“In addition to her strong casualty treaty background and her multi-market experience across emerging and mature regions, I am confident that Michaela’s passion for client focus will be a driving force in our ongoing commitment to maintaining strong and sustainable long term relationships with clients and industry partners in the region,” said Munich Re’s Chief Executive Asia Pacific (Japan, Korea, India, and Southeast Asia) Roland Eckl.
