New employment law in Vietnam enhances labour rights, insurance

The insurance will cover job counselling, skills training, and financial support.

Vietnam’s National Assembly has passed the amended Law on Employment with 99.12% approval, introducing updated regulations on job creation, labour registration, vocational training, and unemployment insurance, reported Vietnam News.

The law defines workers as Vietnamese citizens aged 15 and older and prohibits employment discrimination, fraud in job services, and misuse of labour data. 

It also reinforces protections for personal data in labour registration.

Unemployment insurance will cover job counselling, skills training, and financial support. In times of crisis, the government may reduce premiums or offer additional aid. 

Contributions are capped at 1% of monthly salary from employees, employers, and the government.
