Philippine state insurer raises heart disease coverage
Filipino inpatients can avail of the coverage under two benefit packages.
The Philippine Health Insurance (PhilHealth) increased the reimbursement amount for heart diseases by 1,629% to $8.91k (₱523,853).
As detailed in Circular 2024-0032 issued on 21 December last year, Filipino inpatients with ischemic heart diseases and acute myocardial infarction can avail of the coverage under two benefit packages.
Coverage for percutaneous coronary intervention, a procedure to clear blocked arteries, has been raised from the previous $515.10 (₱30,300). This procedure is available at 70 accredited catheterisation labs nationwide.
Fibrinolysis, a treatment for dissolving blood clots, now has a case rate of $2.27k (₱133,500), up from $515.93 (₱30,290), reflecting a 341% increase.
PhilHealth also expanded coverage for emergency medical services with coordinated referrals and interfacility transfers to $372.30 (₱21,900), whilst benefits for cardiac rehabilitation have been increased to $1.12k (₱66,140).
