Philippines HMOs lift healthcare benefits 20% in first half 2025

The industry’s net income surged 131.12% to $0.03b.

Healthcare benefits paid by health maintenance organisations (HMOs) in the Philippines rose 19.63% to $0.65b (₱36.29b) in the first half of 2025, according to the Insurance Commission.

This compares with $0.55b (₱30.33b) paid in the same period last year.Total HMO revenues grew 21.36% to $0.85b (₱47.03b), driven 

by a 25.23% increase in membership fees to $0.82b (₱45.79b).

Total expenses rose 19.53% to $0.82b (₱45.56b), with 79.64% of these allocated to healthcare benefits and claims.

The industry’s net income surged 131.12% to $0.03b (₱1.47b) from $0.01b (₱636.6m) a year earlier, continuing its return to profitability.

HMO total assets increased 21.14% to $1.51b (₱83.91b), whilst liabilities rose 23.88% to $1.30b (₱72.25b).

Total invested assets fell 13.15% to $0.33b (₱18.23b), mainly due to the maturity of cash equivalents.
