PIAM supports trade dep’t for better motor repair industry
It aims to have a better outcome for the development and sustainability of the motor insurance and repair ecosystem.
The General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) expresses its support for the proactive initiative led by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) in the development of the Malaysian Standard – Motor Vehicle Aftermarket Smash Repair Requirements (JSM MS).
The JSM MS is expected to be officially launched by Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM) in early 2024, to enhance standards and professionalism in motor vehicle smash repair workshop activities across the nation.
PIAM commends the collaborative approach taken by MITI in involving key stakeholders in the motor repair ecosystem for the development of JSM MS.

This collaborative effort includes input and participation from PIAM, the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia, PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd (Management System Certification Department), Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association, Malaysian Automotive Association, Malaysia Takaful Association, and motor franchise repairers.
The scope of JSM MS encompasses a wide range of smash repair workshop activities, covering vehicle body repair to refinishing. It outlines structural, resource, and process requirements for workshops engaged in motor vehicle accident repair.
PIAM looks forward to ongoing collaboration to ensure the safety and satisfaction of customers while promoting the development and sustainability of the motor insurance and repair ecosystem.
The association commits to actively contributing to this initiative by closely monitoring regulatory developments and reviewing their implications on the motor vehicle accident repair ecosystem.
