Prudential adds HKIOC to cross-border oncology care network

One person is diagnosed with cancer every 15 minutes in Hong Kong.

Prudential Hong Kong has partnered with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre (HKIOC) to expand cross-border Medical Expenses Direct Billing Services for cancer treatment across the Greater Bay Area.

The collaboration builds on Prudential’s earlier partnership with Fosun Chancheng Hospital and introduces the "Cancer Patients Shared Care" model. 

Under this initiative, eligible Prudential customers will have access to an oncology support system between the two medical institutions, including joint consultations, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and streamlined referrals between Hong Kong and Foshan.

The service allows Prudential customers to obtain medical cost estimates in advance and receive pre-approval for expenses. 

Once approved, Prudential will settle the bills directly with the medical providers, removing the need for patients to pay upfront.

According to Prudential, the initiative addresses rising demand for high-quality cancer care in the region. In Hong Kong, one person is diagnosed with cancer every 15 minutes. 

On the mainland, the rate is nine per minute, with lung and breast cancer cases reaching 540,000 and 420,000, respectively, in 2020. 

Cancer is also the leading cause of critical illness and death claims under Prudential’s policies, based on its 2024 claims data.
