Shriram General Insurance expands cover as medical cost gaps widen
The policy can refill the insured amount repeatedly within the same year after each exhaustion.
Shriram General Insurance Company (SGI) has launched an updated health insurance product, Shri Health Suraksha 2.0, to address gaps in traditional medical coverage.
Announced on 10 March, the indemnity plan is designed to reduce out-of-pocket costs by removing several common industry restrictions.
The new policy eliminates standard caps on room and ICU charges, allowing policyholders to select hospital facilities based on medical needs rather than fixed budget limits.
It also introduces an unlimited restoration benefit, which automatically resets the sum insured any number of times within a single policy year.
To further minimise financial stress for patients, the plan utilises a "No Co-payment" structure, ensuring the insurer pays the full admissible claim amount without mandatory cost-sharing from the insured.
Additional features of the 2.0 suite include a cumulative bonus of up to 250% to reward claim-free years and coverage for medical consumables.
The plan also expands transport benefits, covering both standard and air ambulance expenses up to the total sum insured. Beyond modern medical procedures, the policy integrates coverage for traditional AYUSH treatments.
