Sompo Japan launches methane detection service with partners
JGC will offer on-site and drone-based measurements.
Sompo Japan Insurance has teamed up with emissions intelligence firm Momentick, Sompo Risk Management, and engineering company JGC Corporation to launch a methane detection solution tied to insurance coverage.
The service uses Momentick’s satellite-based platform to identify and measure methane emissions around insured assets, allowing Sompo to produce detailed risk reports.
JGC will offer on-site and drone-based measurements for clients needing more precise data.
Sompo said the initiative helps energy companies cut emissions, manage risk, and meet global climate targets, including the Global Methane Pledge’s 2030 goal of a 30% methane reduction.
“For companies seeking advanced solutions, Sompo Japan will facilitate access to high-precision greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement and consulting services including ground-level measurements and Drone based measurements provided by JGC Corporation,” the press release said.
“These insights allow Sompo Japan and its clients to identify high-risk areas and take informed action to mitigate emissions and manage environmental risks effectively,” it added.
