Swiss Re overhauls flood model with Fathom data

Work follows Swiss Re’s December 2023 acquisition of Fathom.

Swiss Re has integrated Fathom data into its internal catastrophe model, fortifying the reinsurers’ view of global flood risk.

The work follows Swiss Re’s acquisition of Fathom in December 2023.

Joint teams are developing 50,000-year probabilistic flood event sets using AI-enhanced climate models to better capture extreme events and reduce historical bias.

The models will also incorporate FathomDEM+, Fathom’s global high-resolution terrain dataset, to improve accuracy across different regions.

Fathom’s flood models are already part of Swiss Re’s Risk Data Solutions offering, and the ongoing integration will extend their use across Swiss Re’s underwriting and portfolio management.

The aim is to enhance risk evaluation for both insurance and corporate clients.
