Taiwan insurers record loss in end-May 2025
The industry sharply fell by 128% YoY.
Taiwan’s insurance industry reported a combined pre-tax loss of $1.68b (NT$49.5b) as of end-May 2025, driven mainly by a sharp decline in the life insurance segment, data from the Insurance Bureau showed.
This is equivalent to a contraction of 128.0% year-on-year (YoY).
Life insurers recorded a pre-tax loss of $2.10b (NT$61.7b), down 137.6% YoY.
In contrast, non-life insurers posted a pre-tax profit of $0.41b (NT$12.2b), climbing 2.4% YoY.
Overseas investments by life insurers posted net losses of $4.71b (NT$138.4b), excluding volatility effects.
