Techcom Insurance plugs public health gaps with co-pay plan

Direct billing is available at public hospitals nationwide.

Techcom Insurance has launched Song An Health Insurance, Vietnam's first co-payment health insurance product designed to complement the country's national health scheme.

Approved by the Ministry of Finance, the policy covers out-of-pocket medical expenses at the point of care that are excluded from public coverage, including hospital beds, specific brand-name medicines, and advanced procedures.

Whilst Vietnam's public health insurance system covers 96 per cent of the population, public funding remains constrained.

According to Nguyễn Lan Hương from Vietnam Social Security, the product aligns with the Politburo’s Resolution 72 on healthcare financial reform by establishing a private mechanism to help citizens manage treatment costs for critical illnesses.

The product is integrated into Techcombank's digital platform to handle underwriting, policy issuance, and claims online.

Policyholders can access direct billing at public hospitals nationwide or submit claims digitally, with valid submissions processed within two working days.

Speaking at the launch, Techcombank CEO Jens Lottner and Techcom Insurance Chairman Pranav Seth noted that the plan forms part of a broader financial ecosystem aimed at improving healthcare affordability.
