Vietnam shifts 94% of pension payments to bank accounts

It processed more than 2.35 million sickness, maternity and recuperation benefit claims online.

Vietnam Social Security (VSS) has expanded its digital services and administrative reforms, processing millions of online insurance claims and increasing cashless benefit payments as part of the government's digital transformation programme.

Cashless payments continued to grow, with 94% of pension and monthly social insurance benefit recipients receiving payments through personal bank accounts during the July 2026 payment cycle.

The agency said all health insurance-contracted healthcare facilities now support medical examinations using chip-based Citizen ID Cards. 

As of July 2026, VSS said it had completed the integration of all its online public services with the National Public Service Portal through the National Data Centre. 

The agency also introduced electronic social insurance records and electronic health insurance cards to replace paper documents, helping reduce processing times and compliance costs.

VSS processed nearly 2.95 million integrated administrative applications, including more than 2.92 million health insurance card applications for children under six, nearly 24,000 funeral grant claims and more than 1,000 survivors' benefit claims. 

It also handled more than 26,000 voluntary social insurance transactions, over 103,000 health insurance card registrations and renewals, and more than 2.35 million sickness, maternity and health recuperation benefit claims.

It has completed more than 425.1 million health insurance card information lookups and received over 710.6 million health insurance medical service data submissions.

VSS has also authenticated more than 100.2 million citizen records, with 93.7 million social insurance, health insurance and unemployment insurance records verified against the National Population Database, achieving a verification rate of 99.74%. 

Meanwhile, more than 54 million records have been integrated with the National Data Centre as VSS continues to strengthen its digital infrastructure and cybersecurity.
