Vietnamese student health insurance coverage reaches 98.4% in 2025

Health insurance coverage amongst Vietnamese students reached 98.4% in the 2024 to 2025 school year, with over 20.8 million participants. It grew by 1.7 million more than the previous year, the Vietnam Social Security reported.
In the first half of 2025, the fund paid out $84.7m for 4.3 million student medical visits, up 17% in value and 7.4% in cases year-on-year.
Claims included high-cost treatments for cancer, kidney failure and heart disease.
From July 2025, the government increased its subsidy for student premiums from 30% to at least 50%, lowering annual contributions to a maximum of $25.8.
Some provinces offer further support, with Dak Nong covering up to 60% and Ca Mau up to 70%.
Students receive 80% to 100% reimbursement at designated facilities and 40% to 80% for emergencies or out-of-network care, ensuring broad access to healthcare across all hospital levels.
