Zurich Japan and Aflac suffers data breach

The personal information of around 2 million people was reportedly stolen.

Zurich Insurance Co., the Japanese unit of Zurich Insurance Group Ltd., and Aflac Life Insurance Japan Ltd suffered a data breach that saw the personal information of 2 million customers stolen.

According to Aflac, the breach affected 1,323,468 holders of three cancer insurance policies, covering their last names, ages, genders, and insurance information.

At Zurich Insurance, the email addresses, customer IDs, and automobile names of up to 757,463 auto insurance policyholders have been leaked. The affected information does not include credit card numbers, bank account details, and accident records.

So far, there has been no report of any unauthorised use of the stolen information. The two companies are currently conducting a detailed investigation and are dealing with customer inquiries.
