Korea Re sets up shop in India with new branch in GIFT City

It obtained authorization on 6 November 2025.

Korean Reinsurance Company (Korean Re) is establishing a new branch in India’s Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT City).

The South Korean reinsurer plans to commence operations in April 2026.

It obtained authorization on 6 November 2025 from the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to operate as an IFSC Insurance Office.

“We expect our new branch in India to enhance our ability to respond to the dynamic growth of emerging markets,” said Jonggyu Won, President and CEO of Korean Re, who has spearheaded the company’s global expansion strategy.
