VSS adopts chip-based ID cards for health insurance consultations

Thanks to cashless insurance payments, beneficiaries' payments climbed 10%.

Vietnam Social Security (VSS) processed over 6.8 million electronic transaction files, amounting to 49.9 million records for individual workers, in the first half of this year. This represents 88% of the total files received and processed.

VSS connected and shared data between the National Insurance Database and the National Population Database, implementing technologies to use chip-based ID cards and the electronic identification application (VNeID) instead of paper health insurance cards for medical consultations.

All health facilities now use chip-based ID cards for health insurance consultations, with over 104.2 million verifications conducted.

The agency also promoted cashless insurance payments, with approximately 74% of urban beneficiaries receiving payments through personal accounts, a 10% increase from last year.

VSS collaborated with various ministries and localities on initiatives like electronic health records, data linkage for driver’s health checks, and integration of social insurance information on the VNeID app.

Despite these achievements, VSS faces challenges such as a lack of awareness about digital transformation responsibilities, information security gaps, and insufficient banking infrastructure in rural areas.

The agency is urged to continue adhering to Government directives, improve awareness among workers, and enhance its database for better integration with other sectors.
