Over 40 operations have led to investigations into 1,400 cases since April 2024.

Chinese authorities dismantled of over 300 criminal gangs involved in financial fraud as part of a seven-month campaign targeting insurance fraud, announced last 3 January.

The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) revealed that, since April 2024, more than 40 operations have led to investigations into over 1,400 cases, involving a total of ~$209m (CNY1.5b).

The campaign focused on fraud in areas such as auto insurance, personal injury insurance, employer's liability insurance, and emerging insurance products, which had drawn significant public and industry complaints.

Hua Liebing, director of the economic crime investigation bureau at the MPS, stated that the effort addressed widespread concerns about fraudulent practices in the sector.

The crackdown was conducted in collaboration with financial regulators, with the National Financial Regulatory Administration providing more than 12,000 investigative leads to assist law enforcement.
