HKIA bans two agents over fake policy applications

The HKIA described the misconduct as deliberate and damaging.

The Hong Kong Insurance Authority (HKIA) has banned Leung Wai Mei (Licence No. JE7178) and Ip Ka Ying (Licence No. JA2270) from acting as insurance intermediaries for 12 and 21 months respectively, after they were found to have submitted false policy applications to meet sales targets.

Leung misused a client’s personal information, falsified identity documents for her son, and tried to conceal the misconduct by changing her correspondence address. 

Ip submitted eight fake applications using the details of clients and friends, and fraudulently accepted exclusions of personal liability.

The HKIA described the misconduct as deliberate and damaging to the integrity of the profession.
