General insurance claims explode 146% in Cambodia
The total sum insured hit $11b as claims skyrocket.
Cambodia’s insurance market saw a general upswing in August 2025, with premiums, growth in policies, sums insured, and claims all rising compared to the previous year.
Gross premiums rose by 9.24% compared to August 2024, up from $32.22m to $35.20m.
General insurance premiums soared up 16.28% to $15.57m, whilst life insurance premiums had a more modest uptick of 4.23% to $19.63m.
The total number of policies surged exponentially. Total policies rose to 479,995, a 378.61% increase from 100,289 the year before.
General insurance policies grew by 210.93% to 64,679, whilst life insurance policies jumped 378.29% to 415,316.
The total sum insured increased by 49.49% year on year, reaching $11.64b.
General insurance contributed $9.65b, up 59.14%, whilst life insurance arrived at $1.98b, up 15.42%.
Gross claims incurred also went up overall by 57.67% to $9.75m.
General insurance claims rose 146.17% to $7.75m. Life insurance was the only number in the red with claims dropping 34.22% to $1.99m.
