IDF replaces co-chairs with UNDP’s De Croo and MIGA’s Yamamoto

Both entered their UN roles in December 2025 and now sit atop the Steering Committee.

The Insurance Development Forum (IDF) has appointed Alexander De Croo, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Tsutomu Yamamoto, Managing Director of the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), as the new public sector co-chairs of its Steering Committee.

De Croo took up the role of UNDP Administrator in December 2025.

He previously served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 2020 to 2024 and has held several senior leadership positions at national and international levels. 

As UNDP Administrator, he oversees the agency’s work in more than 170 countries and territories, focusing on poverty reduction, inequality, and resilience to climate and systemic risks.

Yamamoto also assumed his current position in December 2025. He has more than 30 years of experience in international banking and finance, largely with Mizuho Bank. 

His most recent role was Senior Managing Executive Officer and Head of Global Transaction Banking, where he was involved in operations across the Americas, Asia, and Europe. 

His background includes cross-border investment, risk mitigation, and private sector financing.

De Croo and Yamamoto succeed Achim Steiner and Hiroshi Matano, respectively, both in their institutional roles and as co-chairs of the IDF Steering Committee. They will jointly lead the forum as it enters its second decade.
