Singapore insurers win 96% of health claim battles

Parliamentary reply shows only 4% of policyholders succeed in disputes.

Singapore’s financial regulator recorded a low number of health insurance disputes resolved in favour of policyholders over the past three years, according to an oral reply in Parliament on 4 February 2026.

Responding to a question from Dr Hamid Razak, Member of Parliament for West Coast–Jurong West GRC, Minister of State Alvin Tan said the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) had earlier addressed similar questions in Parliament in November 2025.

Tan said that between 2022 and 2024, the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (FIDReC) completed an average of 246 mediation and adjudication cases each year involving disputes over insurance claim liability and payout amounts.

Of these, an average of 95 cases a year were related to health insurance claims.

Independent assessors ruled in favour of policyholders in 4% of health insurance dispute cases over the three-year period.
