Allianz Commercial to gain new head of construction next year

Before Darren Smart takes his role in 2024, Gordon Browne will continue to oversee his segment.

Darren Smart will be joining Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE in March 2024 as the global head of construction for Allianz Commercial, a key appointment to the global specialty leadership team.

Reporting to Gordon Browne, Global Head of specialty, Smart will be based in London.

He currently serves as the Global Construction Practice Leader at Liberty Specialty Markets.

This move aligns with the earlier announcement establishing Natural Resources and Construction as two separate Lines of Business (LoB).

Until Smart's arrival in 2024, Gordon Browne will continue to oversee this part of the business, collaborating with the existing leadership team

Smart brings a wealth of experience to Allianz, having started his underwriting career at Allianz Cornhill (Allianz UK) and later working at Trans Re as Assistant Vice President.

He joined Liberty Specialty Markets in 2007, initially serving as Construction Regional Product Line Manager for EMEA, and subsequently taking on his current role as Global Construction Practice Leader in 2016.
