bolttech partners with electronics giant, unveils device protection plan
The programme starts in Hong Kong, initially limited to cameras and lenses.
Japanese multinational electronics conglomerate Sony has partnered with insurtech bolttech to launch an embedded protection programme.
The My Sony Care+ offers extended warranty and complimentary accidental and liquid damage cover for its devices, with Tokio Marine supporting the programme.
The service builds on Sony’s existing My Sony Care extended warranty and adds accidental and liquid damage (ADLD) protection to provide broader coverage throughout a product’s life cycle.
The programme will be available to Sony customers in Hong Kong from mid-December, initially covering cameras and lenses.
From 2026, the coverage will be expanded to include Xperia smartphones, televisions, portable music players and over-ear headphones.
Customers can buy My Sony Care+ within 30 days of purchasing a new Sony product.
Under the programme, devices are covered for one or two additional years beyond the original warranty, with unlimited repairs for mechanical and electrical failures up to the product’s recommended retail price, or a one-time replacement if the product is beyond economic repair.
The ADLD cover also provides repairs or replacement within the same limits, with up to two repairs for a one-year plan and three repairs for a two-year plan.
The accidental and liquid damage insurance is underwritten by bolttech Insurance (Hong Kong) Company Limited.
