China proposes law to enhance universal health insurance system
It includes a chapter outlining the structure of the national medical security system.
Chinese lawmakers are reviewing a draft law aimed at enhancing the country’s universal basic medical insurance system, according to Xinhua news agency.
The draft was submitted last week Tuesday for its first reading during the ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
According to Zhang Ke, head of the National Healthcare Security Administration, the draft law includes a dedicated chapter outlining the structure of the national medical security system.
It defines coverage, funding mechanisms, and benefit guarantees for basic medical insurance for urban employees, basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents, and maternity insurance.
The proposal also includes measures to ensure the stable and secure operation of the medical insurance fund, with tighter oversight of revenue and expenditure management.
