Howden Re launches reinsurance broking unit in Hong Kong

A managing director has been appointed to lead the treaty reinsurance operations.

Howden Re has launched a dedicated reinsurance broking platform in Hong Kong and appointed Roy Wong as managing director, Reinsurance, Hong Kong, effective 21 July.

Wong will be responsible for establishing and leading Howden Re’s treaty reinsurance operations in the market, with a focus on core business lines tailored to the needs of Hong Kong-based clients.

He will report to Andy Souter, head of Asia Pacific at Howden Re International, and work closely with the regional team, including Emily Lo, head of Analytics, Asia.

Wong brings 25 years of industry experience, most recently serving as Head of Hong Kong Reinsurance at Aon Re.

His appointment follows other recent senior hires in the region, including Jimmy Tsai as head of Taiwan Treaty Reinsurance and John Philipsz as head of Australia and New Zealand.

Joining Wong in the Hong Kong team are Brian Chan and Karen Liu, who will come on board as senior brokers.

Chan previously spent six years at Guy Carpenter in Hong Kong and held roles at JLT Re, Willis Re, and as an actuarial analyst and catastrophe modeller.

Liu also joins from Guy Carpenter, having been a director at JLT Re, and started her career at Prudential Assurance.
