Liberty Mutual bolsters capabilities to expand in APAC

Liberty Specialty Markets and Asia Retail Markets will merge.

Liberty Mutual Insurance announced changes in its Global Risks Solutions (GRS) segment, focusing on enhancing its presence in key global markets, including Asia Pacific.

A new international insurance business division, Liberty International Insurance (LII), will be established to serve Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and the UK & MENA regions under existing brands like Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) and Liberty Insurance. 

Phil Hobbs, currently leading Liberty Specialty Markets, will head LII as President.

In Asia, Liberty Specialty Markets and Asia Retail Markets will merge to form a unified strategy under the leadership of Matthew Jackson, who will be named President of Liberty International Insurance, Asia Pacific.

Other regions within LII will be led by Kadidja Sinz (Europe), Manuel Moreno (U.S. and Latin America), and Luis Prato (UK & MENA).

Defne Turkes, currently heading Asia Retail Markets, will become Chief Operating Officer of Liberty International Insurance, reporting to Phil Hobbs and Sue Figueredo Cook, Chief Operating Officer of Global Risk Solutions.

Mike Abdallah, leading LSM's Asia Pacific commercial insurance business, will continue in his role. Meanwhile, Liberty Mutual Surety in the U.S. will undergo organisational changes to better serve its brokers and customers globally. Tim Mikolajewski will continue to lead as President, of Global Surety.
