Manulife shifts AI leadership to Hong Kong with new hire
The insurer has already rolled out 91 generative AI use cases across its operations.
Manulife has appointed Hongjuan Liu as Chief AI and Data Officer for Hong Kong and Macau, as part of efforts to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and position Hong Kong as a regional AI hub.
The move follows the re-domiciliation of Manulife (International) Limited and forms part of the insurer’s wider strategy to become an AI-powered organisation.
The company has also relocated its Asia Chief AI Officer, Mark Czajkowski, to Hong Kong to support regional leadership and adoption of AI.
Patrick Graham, CEO of Manulife Hong Kong and Macau, said the appointments align with government initiatives to promote AI development and regulatory efforts by the Insurance Authority to support innovation in the sector.
Clement Cheung, chief executive of the Insurance Authority, said Manulife’s decision to base key AI personnel in Hong Kong reflects the city’s position as an international financial centre and supports the development of local capabilities, customer experience and operational efficiency.
Manulife said it continues to expand its use of AI across its business.
As of end-2025, the company had deployed 91 generative AI use cases, with a further 121 in development. Its proprietary GenAI assistant, ChatMFC, has been rolled out across its global workforce.
In Hong Kong, the insurer has introduced several AI tools, including a customer chatbot offering round-the-clock multilingual support, AI SalesPro for agent insights, and an AI assistant to support underwriting decisions.
It has also invested in local talent programmes, including a Young Talent AI Development Programme.
He will report to the Hong Kong and Macau CEO, with a functional reporting line to Czajkowski, who has relocated from Singapore.
Czajkowski, who has over 20 years of experience in marketing, analytics and AI strategy, is responsible for shaping Manulife’s AI agenda across Asia.
