Over half of Australians open to switching health insurers for perks

Other popular incentives included bonus frequent flyer points.

Over half of Australians are open to switching providers if offered a compelling sign-up deal, which signals the growing influence of incentives in the health insurance market, according to Finder.

The survey of 547 Australians further showed that 31% of respondents would consider changing insurers for a 12-week free offer, whilst 19% cited gift cards and cashback as strong motivators.

Other popular incentives included bonus frequent flyer points (17%), reduced waiting periods (15%), and 6 weeks free cover (9%).

Tim Bennett, insurance expert at Finder, said insurers are increasingly relying on incentives to attract new customers as cost-conscious Australians look for value.

“Perks like gift cards or frequent flyer points feel like a win — they give people a sense of immediate reward for what's usually a pretty dull purchase,” Bennett said. “For many Australians, health insurance feels like an unwelcome expense, so if a sign-up bonus adds some tangible value upfront, it can tip the scales and make switching feel worth it,”
