Phl’s Insurance Commission resolves 5,417 complaints in 2023

The number of resolved complaints last year was 7.8% higher compared to 2022.

In 2023, the Insurance Commission (IC) of the Philippines successfully resolved all 5,417 complaints from the insuring public. However, this tally was 7.8% higher than 2022’s 5,025 resolved complaints.

Broken down, complaints against life, non-life, and pre-need insurers saw double-digit contractions to 14.2% (to 665), 11.7% (838), and 46.5% (85), respectively.

The resolutions were achieved through amicable settlements or formal adjudication. Additionally, there was a notable 30.8% increase in the number of adjudicated cases related to disputed insurance claims, with 51 cases decided in 2023 compared to 39 cases in the previous year. 

The IC, in line with the Insurance Code, holds jurisdiction over disputed insurance claims up to a maximum amount of P5.0m ($89,000).
