Swiss Re taps Tamas Bown to run Asia-Pacific L&H Re unit

Bown returns to the region after leading the UK and Ireland unit that later added ME and Africa.

Swiss Re has appointed Tamas Bown as its new Asia-Pacific (excluding China) lead for its Life and Health Reinsurance (L&H Re) Business Unit.

The appointment is scheduled to take effect on 1 April, pending the necessary regulatory approvals.

Upon confirmation, Bown will relocate to Singapore to oversee the regional operations.

This transition marks a return to the Asia-Pacific market for Bown, who previously held leadership roles as the head of L&H Client Markets in Japan and chairperson of the Asia L&H Origination Committee.

His most recent tenure involved leading Swiss Re’s UK and Ireland Market Unit starting in 2023, a portfolio that grew in 2024 to encompass the Middle East and Africa.

Paul Murray, CEO of L&H Re, noted that Bown’s 20-year history with the company and his existing familiarity with Asian insurance markets make him a suitable internal choice for the role.

The move comes as Swiss Re continues to refine its global L&H Re strategy.

For the 2026 fiscal year, the group has set a specific net income target of $1.5b for the L&H Re sector.
